Is it a burn it all year or a build it all year?
How to tell where you are in the 9 year cycle.
I have about 45 minutes before a client call and I haven’t written something new for substack in a really long time. So long in fact that substack themselves emailed me to check in and make sure I wasn’t in crisis.
I went from thousands of subscribers here, and a vibrant community of writers and readers to … well… Me dropping off the face of *this* earth.
Crisis. I mean, In some ways I have been. This last year we have started a new business, Moved out of a rental, designed and built a tiny house in a 6 week period then prepared land to put it on. Moved in. Maintained business, social, parenting two big energy little boys (in said tiny house), nourished a marriage, supported a beautiful birth that brutally ended in the passing of her spirit. Grief and mourning. Interstate travel.
I’ve barely had time to sit in a moment of silence let alone nourish and pour into substack.
A year ago I ventured into the Bunya mountains.
There’s nothing really there except stunning rainforest, stinging trees, snakes, dingos, peoples part time holiday cabins, some nice nature walks, a cafe and a bar. It’s a good four hours inland from the coast and very rural.
We were there with friends in their… part time holiday house overlooking the valley.
I had been flicking through a little real estate brochure. One that had been printed off at a library.
I like it when I see flyers or brochures. Especially from little towns trying to showcase themselves. It reminds me that the whole world is in fact, not entirely caught up in AI, 3D printing and digital everything. That they really care about their bunya-nut scones and local jam.
I’m flicking through because I have a fetish for cabins and wooden houses, and right at the very back was a tiny little phone number.
It read “Russel. Numerology readings. *phone number*.
Who doesn’t have a secret fantasy of finding some ancient wizard up in the mountains to come and give predictions on your life?
Just me?
I call him and only hours later our friend Nige has picked this mysterious man Russel up at the top of the drive way (Context, this is an incredibly long driveway only good for 4WD), and driven him to meet myself and a few girlfriends at the top of the hill overlooking the entire valley.
A storm is brewing overhead. We are at the highest point so overhead literally feels over our heads. The electricity is in the air. Shadows move over the valley.
We sit there. Patiently. Almost nervously. Awaiting our wizard to join us.
And so he does. A mid 60 something year old man with a big smile.
He unfolds his little portable chair and joins us in circle.
This is normally not something I would advocate for - calling some random man’s phone number and giving him our address, but we were high on spontaneity at the time and it seemed like a nice idea.
I used to think numerology was Childs play. Especially after diving deeper into gene keys, human design, astrology beyond the sun signs.
Plot twist - I was wrong.
He sat there and stared into each of our souls. He gave us a numerological run down of our lives up until this point, and what was coming for us.
It was disgustingly accurate.
All of our jaws were on the floor, and we sat in a vortex of this mans energy for an hour. What I thought was just numbers on a page, was actually a very detailed map of our lives. What I believed had been free will… perhaps - was not.
We arrived home later and as if we had drank 10 coffees we tried to explain all the details to our husbands.
We had Russ come back the following day and give us all family readings. We would rotate the kids so that each couple could go and get - sometimes a bit of a roast- or at the very least some insight into the patterns and dynamics playing out in the energy world.
Being my philosophical self - I hold so much context as to why people are the way they are. Attachment styles, childhood traumas, trauma responses, nervous system wiring, passion, nature, nurture, environment, location of upbringing, culture, and so much more.
What I loved about this numerology - and likely what draws me to astrology, human design and other modalities… is it’s beyond the mind. It’s the energetic theme of your life, your 30 year cycles, your personal year and where you currently sit on your 9 year cycle.
Now - the reason I bring this up is because as we move into 2025 -
and we see every Tom, Dick and Harry on our newsfeeds proclaiming their big dreams and goals and being their #bestselves as of January 1st 7.30am.
You already know where I stand regarding fake new years but if you’re new here you can take a look here
Something that has truly helped me not sit in comparison of everyone else’s goals, successes, failures, and experience of the year - is really acknowledging that we are all moving through 9 year cycles and all exist at different points on that spectrum.
If someone has a huge year with financial success, marketing is on point, things look like they are going really well - I can assume they are likely in an 8 year of their cycle.
If their world looks like it’s crumbling to an extent, and they are burning things to the ground (relationships, career, moving away from community or a home etc), I can safely assume they are at the end of the 9 year cycle, and are closing all the open loops before beginning a new cycle.
If someone is hyper focused on starting fresh, setting new foundations, perhaps a new business, new relationship - I can assume they are in a one year. Right at the beginning of a new 9 years.
If someone is focused on family, home, routines, structures - it’s likely they are in a 6 year.
If they are having fun, being really playful with their expression, being very explorative and not taking life too seriously - that’s giving 3 energy.
All of this is so important because it’s important for US to tune into where WE are, and honour the natural energetics of our year.
Our personal year also ticks over on our birthday, NOT “New years eve” and so that is also relevant information when planning your life.
The easiest way to calculate your personal year number is to jump on chatgpt and give it your birth date and ask what is your current personal year number based on your birthday and the current date. It will give you a little write up and elaborate.
Alternatively you can calculate it here: Numerology Calculator
I would be interested to see if you can see your own patterns. When was your last 9 year? Did anything significant happen that year?
We are collectively (2025) also in a big 9 year, so there is a natural flavour of closing loops, finishing things up, burning a couple of things to the ground.
I am also in a personal 9 year so instead of going hard with fake new year resolutions, I know that this year is significantly about self reflection and taking action on closing what I need to close.
Let me know in the comments if this brought anything for you, I’d love to know xx

I read this and was like Oo I want the 3 energy and yep that’s the energy I’m in this year apparently.
I’ve always been skeptical of numerology things tbh but I’m happy to play with the bits that feel like permissions.
Love the idea of the wizard coming to you on a stormy day with friends so magical ✨
Ran to read this!!!! Have missed seeing you on here.
As per usual I couldn’t tear my eyes from the page — even took my glasses off so I could feel like my eye balls really touched the page
Here’s to riding out a 9 year together 🤞🤞
